Gifts That Keep On Giving
For those who wish to give rather than receive this holiday season, there are plenty of worthy causes to check out.
Animal Charities
Your local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is always in need of $$ to put towards medical supplies, overhead costs, etc. Where I live, they are always in need of shelter supplies, so even when I don’t have cash, I can drop off gently used towels and bedding to help the cause.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals also accepts donations to their national organization.
Best Friends Animal Society is the nation’s largest sanctuary for abused and abandoned animals, and even $1 donation can buy a treat for an animal.
Worldwide Medical Charities
Doctors Without Bordersoffers nutrition and health care for poor regions worldwide, and as little as $1 will buy a one-day supply of food for someone in need.
Nothing But Nets supplies mosquito nets and educates families about the importance of their use. For just $10, you can buy a net and help stop malaria.
Eco Charities
Urban Farming promotes planting gardens in unused urban spaces. So even if you can’t plant your own, help someone who can!
Seacology helps preserve island cultures and natural resources for the world’s 100,000-plus islands. A $100 donation will preserve nine acres of forest.
These are just a few of the many wonderful charitable organizations that need donations.
Others include:
Save the Children
UNICEF
World Wildlife Fund
Nature Conservancy
Heifer International
So the next time someone asks you what you want for Christmas, why not ask for a donation to a worthy cause? It might just be the best gift you’ve ever received.
